Keyboarding for Computer Access

0.5 units

Class Description

The Typing Tutor 99 on-screen-tutorial program guides the student in learning touch-typing computer skills. Access tools, both hardware and software, may be used to accommodate various disabilities. The program is paced to match the needs of each student. There are a variety of menu options that may be chosen by students to design their own lessons.

This course provides keyboarding basics to students with disabilities. It incorporates adaptive technologies into the context of computer tutorials.

Students With Disabilities

If you have a verified physical, mental, or learning disability that requires any special accommodations, we will be happy to make any necessary arrangements with you.

Attendance Policy

Students should schedule their lab time during the first few days of each nine-week section. Students are responsible for keeping an up-to-date record of their attendance by signing in before each session. Lab hours must be recorded in order to receive credit. Attendance on a regular basis is very important. A student may be dropped from the class if absences are excessive.

Grading

Grading is credit/no credit based on the number of hours a student attends and the progress made. There may be periodic assessments to monitor a student’s progress in learning keyboarding.

To receive credit for a .5 unit section, a student must log in and practice a minimum of 22 hours on a computer in the Assistive Technology Center (ATC). Two and a half to three and a half hours practice per week is recommended.
