Welcome to the Academic Support Center

The Academic Support Center, on the ground floor of Building 3300, provides a
centralized location for many of the Cuesta College learning assistance services
on the San Luis Obispo Campus. On the North County Campus, services are
available in Room N5004. |
The Academic Support Center is located:
- in the High Tech Center, building 3300, on the
San Luis Obispo Campus
- in room N5004 on the
North County Campus
- hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Fridays 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m., when classes are in session
- hours may be reduced, or the center may be closed, during the break
between semesters
The mission of the Cuesta College Academic Support Center is:
- to help all students achieve their personal, educational, and vocational goals by promoting the
learning strategies and attitudes necessary for academic success;
- to encourage independent learning so that students can educate themselves continuously throughout
their lifetimes;
- to promote student success by sharing knowledge of the learning process with students, faculty,
administration, and staff in a collaborative partnership for the enhancement of learning;
- to help faculty infuse learning strategies and active learning experiences into their teaching
methodologies; and
- to recognize and respect the diversity within our learning community by providing appropriate and
effective academic support.
This mission is fulfilled by offering the following learning and teaching assistance to students and faculty:
Academic Support
- In order to help all students achieve their personal, educational, and vocational goals,
Academic Support programs and services offers courses, workshops, tutorial services, and resources
for students and faculty to promote the learning strategies and the attitudes necessary for student
academic success.
Academic Support Lab
- Provides students with specialized computer-assisted and video-tutorial
programs to assess and improve academic skills in reading, spelling, grammar,
writing, vocabulary, mathematics, study skills, and ESL.
Academic Skills Courses
- Courses in reading, grammar, spelling, math, cyber literacy, test preparation, word processing,
study skills, and college success are offered each semester and are
available to all students.
Disabled Student Programs and Services
- The major objective of the DSPS Office at Cuesta College is to assure
educational access for students with disabilities.
- DSPS concentrates its efforts on providing services
that are not available elsewhere in the college.
DSPS Assistive Technology Center
- The Assistive Technology Center offers computer use and computer
instruction. The lab includes
adaptive hardware and software to enable students with disabilities to access the computers.
Math Lab
- Provides drop-in assistance and support to students enrolled in Math 3 through Math
85 and Physics. Computers with Mediated Math, Minitab, Derive, and other software
are available.
Student Success Workshops
- Workshops are offered each semester and are available to all students.
Topics may include time management, memory strategies, textbook reading,
note-taking, test taking, math anxiety, and how to be a college student.
Tutorial Center
- Tutorial Services provides free individual and small group tutoring in most academic subjects.
Writing Center
- Provides any Cuesta student with assistance with writing assignments and college application essays.
Papers will not be proofread, but specific questions about structure
and content will be answered. Computers are available for use.
