Adapted Word Processing I –An Introduction to Microsoft Word

Class Description

Introduces the use of microcomputer access technologies for students with physical and/or learning disabilities within the context of word processing.

Students will learn how to use Microsoft Word on the PC type computers to produce documents for business and class applications. The class will start out with the basics and build upon each concept. Although a typing speed of 20 words per minute is recommended, it is not a requirement.

Each student will receive individual attention from the instructor to answer specific questions. The class is a lecture/lab class with the lecture and lab being a set time. This means that all assignments should be completed in class.

This class will examine these components as they relate to word processing:

  • File save/open
  • Document types
  • Word wrap
  • Edit – cut, copy, & paste
  • Format – fonts, paragraphs documents
  • Pagination
  • Spellchecker and thesaurus
  • Application of writing formats, e.g. business letters, term paper formats, etc.
  • Proofreading and editing skills
  • General word processing principles
  • Color
  • Graphics
  • Computer terminology and vocabulary
  • Headers and footers
  • Other related components
