ACSK005 LEARNING SKILLS LABORATORY (0.5 or 1 unit)

Independent programs to improve basic skills; computer, audio, worksheets. More ACSK005
ACSK010 TEST PREPARATION: OCCUPATIONAL (1 unit)
Prepares prospective employees to successfully take the necessary placement test or qualifying examination to apply for employment in a variety of occupations, such as the psychiatric technician placement test and the civil service examination. The specific content, skills, knowledge, and the most appropriate test-taking approaches will be included to build confidence, and reduce uncertainty, confusion, and test anxiety. The goal is to maximize each individualís potential to achieve the highest possible score on the placement test or qualifying examination.
ACSK115 ADJUNCT STUDY SKILLS (0.5 units)
Applies study strategies, reading & language skills to demands of linked content course. Co-requisite to targeted content area courses improves course grades.
ACSK120 LEARNING ESSENTIALS FOR COLLEGE SURVIVAL (1.5 units, 9 weeks)
Includes time planning, note taking, test taking, memory techniques, and library skills.

ACSK227 TEST & PERFORMANCE ANXIETY (1.5 unit)
Explores the relationship between the physiological, psychological, and emotional responses to test and performance anxiety. Course investigates the theories of stress and anxiety and offers guided practice in the cognitive, meditative, and biofeedback-aided techniques to manage anxiety while taking a test, succeeding in math, giving a speech, and/or competing in a sport.

Phonics, rules, and word attach for reading and spelling using multi-sensory techniques.
ACSK032 READING COMPREHENSION (2 units)
Comprehension skills using imagery to improve understanding of classroom lectures and textbooks.
ACSK034 BUILDING READING ESSENTIALS (3 units)
Improves fundamentals for active and effective reading and clear thinking.
ACSK036 READING ESSENTIALS  (3 units)
Understanding and retention of textbook information; reading efficiency; vocabulary.

Grammar, mechanics, and sentence structure
ACSK055 SPELLING ESSENTIALS (3 units)
Spelling rules, memory techniques, proofing, and personal learning strategies.
ACSK058 GRAMMAR ESSENTIALS (1.5 unit, 9 weeks)
Focuses on the basic grammar, punctuation, and usage skills essential for effective writing.

ACSK004 ADAPTED STUDIES: LECTURE (2 units)
Presents curricula and instruction, not available in other courses in a lecture format, to meet identified special learning needs of disabled students. May include advanced training in comprehension, phonetics, computer-assisted instruction, or other specialized topics. More ACSK1104

ACSK168  TUTOR TRAINING: SELECTED TOPICS
Provides specialized information and guided practice in designated topics or projects. Tutors gain expertise in subject areas not offered in other tutor training courses.
ACSK140 DIAGNOSTIC TESTING FOR LEARNING DISABILITY (0.5 units)
Assesses eligibility for Disabled Student Programs and Services according to California Community College Title V regulations. Develops an Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Provides placement recommendations, support, and counseling.
