January 5-6, 2007

New! Accreditation Institute

On January 5-6, 2007, the Academic Senate will host its first Accreditation Institute at the SFO Westin in Millbrae. Open to all faculty, Accreditation Liaison Officers, and Chief Instructional Officers, this Institute will focus on the relationship between local governance and the creation of the successful self study. The Institute hours will be from 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007. February 16-18, 2007

New! Teaching Institute

 

February 16-18, 2007, the Academic Senate will host its first Teaching Institute at the Sofitel in San Francisco Bay.  The Teaching Institute is open to all faculty, especially new faculty because of the new faculty orientation segment, and will focus on fostering ideas and best practices to improve the educational teaching environment and learning at our community colleges.  The Institute hours will be from 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2007, to 12:00 noon Sunday, February 18, 2007.  The cost of this event is $700 (single), $550 (double), and $350 (registration only).  You can find the registration form and more information about this event on our websitePlease note that this event is limited to only 75 participants so early registration is encouraged.  The deadline for registration is January 22, 2007

 
 

March 8-10, 2007

Vocational Education Leadership Institute

 

March 8 – 10, 2007, the Vocational Leadership Institute will be held at the Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs.  The Vocational Education Leadership Institute is designed to develop and promote leadership among occupational faculty at local, regional and state levels, as well as provide attendees with training and a range of tools. This Institute helps to develop close relationships with statewide leaders and other occupational faculty members while informing occupational educators about the resources available to them. The Institute hours will be from 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007, to 12:00 noon Saturday, March 10, 2007.  The cost of attending the Institute, including double occupancy lodging, is subsidized. Single rooms are available at a cost of $192 to the participant. There is a flat $100 fee for the Institute with $50 reimbursed after attendance. If you register by January 8, 2007, your registration will be waived.  Institute expenses, such as room, travel and meeting meals will be covered by the Academic Senate and a grant from the System Office. June 14-16, 2007

Faculty Leadership Institute

 

The Faculty Leadership Institute will be held June 14 – 16, 2007, at the Hayes Mansion Hotel in San Jose.  The Faculty Leadership Institute is designed for current and aspiring faculty leaders at community colleges and provides assistance and training to faculty members to empower them to run stronger, more effective local senates. Through a variety of Institute activities, participants learn to identify the role and function of local senates as well as their relationship to the statewide Academic Senate, the System Office, other consultation groups, the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, and the Legislature. The Institute hours will be from 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2007, to 12:00 noon Saturday, June 16, 2007.  The cost of this event is $725 (single), $575 (double), and $350 (registration only).  You can find the registration form and more information about this event on our websitePlease note that this event is limited to only 50 participants so early registration is encouraged.  The deadline for registration is May 21, 2007.  

 
 

July 12-14, 2007

Curriculum Institute

The Curriculum Institute will be held July 12 – 14, 2007, at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado. The Curriculum Institute provides faculty curriculum chairs, Chief Instructional Officers, and faculty members involved in new program development, program revision, or technology curriculum development with training on curriculum development. Participants in attendance learn good curriculum committee practices, including how to write integrated course outlines. This Institute offers a unique opportunity for campuses to send teams to participate in the very important process of curriculum development. The Institute hours will be from 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2007, to 12:00 noon Saturday, July 14, 2007.  The cost of this event is $725 (single), $575 (double), and $350 (registration only).  You can find the registration form and more information about this event on our websitePlease note that this event is limited to only 100 participants so early registration is encouraged.  The deadline for registration is June 12, 2007.
